What is the greatest liberal speech of all time?
“Go back to your constituencies and prepare...” Er, probably not.
Some might recommend Jo Grimond’s famous ‘Gunfire’ speech of 1963. Others might propose Martin Luther King’s ‘I Have a Dream’ of the same year.
Gladstone’s Midlothian speeches of 1880 have their champions although, in the age of the soundbite, modern audiences might baulk at a series of speeches each up to five hours long.
For my money, the crown belongs to Brian’s one-minute oration (“That wasn’t a minute!”):
