Thatcher: Local newspaper gets to the heart of the matter

  1. Classic. Dartford mentioned 3 times in first 2 sentences. Almost as good as the Gainsborough News story about the girl who narrowly missed a fire in an Isle of Man disco by deciding not to go to the Isle of Man after all.

    1. I remember the Gainsborough News story well. It followed the Summerland fire disaster in Douglas, Isle of Man, in August 1973. The front page headline read "Gainsborough woman in narrow escape". It turned out that the local woman in question had not been in Summerland at the time of the fire. She had not even been on the Isle of Man. She had merely considered having a holiday there that week but decided not to go.
